With just a few clicks, you can set-and-forget your Storyblok setup so that AltText.ai automatically generates and applies alt text in the background. How It Works

The integration operates through webhook triggers. When you upload a new image to your Storyblok asset library or update an existing one, Storyblok fires a webhook to AltText.ai. Our system receives the image, analyzes it using GPT-4 Vision, generates descriptive alt text, and writes it back to your Storyblok asset within seconds.

You don't need to monitor the process or manually trigger generation. Upload your images as you normally would. When you go to use them in your content, the alt text is already there. The workflow stays invisible until you need it.

The integration supports both new uploads and bulk processing of existing assets. If you're starting fresh with Storyblok, every image gets alt text automatically from day one. If you already have thousands of images in your asset library, you can process them all in one operation.

Configure your target languages once, and every image gets alt text in all specified languages. Custom prompts: You can define custom AI prompts that modify the alt text generation style. If your brand has specific voice guidelines or needs particular terminology, configure a prompt that instructs the AI to follow those rules. The prompt applies to all alt text generated for your account, ensuring consistency across your entire asset library.

Bulk processing: Process your entire existing Storyblok asset library in one operation. The system handles rate limiting and API constraints automatically. For libraries with 10,000+ images, bulk processing typically completes in a few hours depending on API limits.

Setup Guide

Getting started takes about five minutes. First, you need an AltText.ai account. If you don't have one, sign up at alttext.ai and generate an API key from your account settings.

Next, connect the integration in your Storyblok space. Go to your space settings, navigate to the integrations section, and search for AltText.ai. Enable the integration and paste your API key. Save the settings.

The integration is now active. Upload a test image to your asset library. Wait 5-10 seconds, then open the image details. You should see the alt text field populated with a generated description. If the alt text appears, the integration is working correctly.

For bulk processing existing assets, use the bulk update tool available in your AltText.ai account. Select Storyblok as the source, authenticate with your space credentials, and choose which assets to process. The system will queue the work and email you when complete.

Best Practices

Custom prompts for branded content: If your organization has strict brand guidelines, configure a custom prompt that instructs the AI to use specific terminology or tone. For example, a luxury fashion brand might use: "Describe images with elegant, aspirational language focusing on craftsmanship and premium materials."

Handling large image sets: If you're processing thousands of images at once, use the bulk processing feature during off-peak hours. This minimizes the impact on your API rate limits and ensures other team members don't experience slowdowns when uploading new assets.

Multi-language considerations: Each additional language consumes one credit per image. If you operate in 10 languages and process 1,000 images, that's 10,000 credits total. Plan your credit allocation accordingly. For most teams, it makes sense to generate alt text in your primary language first, then add additional languages as needed rather than processing all languages at once.

Review and refine: While AI-generated alt text is accurate for most images, you may want to review and refine descriptions for critical assets like hero images, product launches, or brand campaigns. The integration allows manual edits to any alt text field in Storyblok without re-processing the image.
