Works in Claude on the web and desktop. Confirm the connector Claude fills in, then sign in.

Or open Customize, then Connectors, choose Add custom connector, and paste the URL. On Team and Enterprise plans, an owner adds the connector first.

  1. In Settings, open Security and login and turn on Developer mode.
  2. Go to chatgpt.com/plugins and click +.

    Sign in and approve

    Your assistant opens an AltText.ai sign-in page. After you sign in, you'll see the name the assistant gave itself (marked unverified), the account it wants to connect to, and whether it asked for read-only or read-and-write access.

    Choose Allow connection if you started the request. The connection lasts 90 days, and you can revoke it sooner.

    Start asking

    Ask for alt text in plain language. Your assistant picks the right AltText.ai tool. Generating and translating alt text uses your account credits, the same as any other AltText.ai request.

The hosted server runs at https://mcp.alttext.ai/mcp. You add it by URL, sign in to AltText.ai, and approve access. There's nothing to install and no API key to copy. The local install runs the open-source package on your machine with npx and your API key, and adds two tools that work with your files: generate_alt_text_from_file and bulk_create for CSV files.
