How to install

  1. Visit the AltText.ai listing on the Shopify App Store.
  2. Click Add app and approve the requested permissions (read/write products, blogs, and metafields).
  3. The app is now connected. New product images receive alt text automatically.
  4. Run a one-time bulk job from the app dashboard to process your existing catalog.

Yes. AltText.ai stores its per-image processing metadata in dedicated metafields under the alttext_ai namespace, so other apps and Shopify Flow can read it. For large catalogs we use the Shopify Bulk Operations API, which is the supported way to process tens of thousands of products without rate limits. Bulk jobs run server-side and surface progress in the app dashboard.
Yes. If your store has multiple published languages via Shopify Markets, AltText.ai can translate alt text into each market language and sync via the Shopify Translations API — so localized customers see localized alt text automatically. We support 130+ languages. Translations cost 1 additional credit per language per image.
Yes. AltText.ai exposes Shopify Flow triggers and actions for end-to-end automation — for example, regenerate alt text whenever a product image changes, or kick off bulk regeneration when a collection is published. This makes it straightforward to wire alt text into your existing merchandising and PIM workflows.
